Whirlpool Duet Dryer (or KitchenAid or Roper) Not Tumbling Repair Instructions
- There is a line of Whirlpool Duet Dryers (front load) that are starting to fail. The problem is that they will not start tumbling or doing anything when you push the button to start drying...the readout displays information and all appears as it normally would, but the dryer is not tumbling (nor drying anything, obviously). The "sensing" light may light up, but nothing happens. Or, your dryer light is staying on even though the door is closed and the dryer won't start up.

This particular problematic dryer is a Whirlpool Duet model number GEW9250PW0. This same dryer is sold under the brand names of KitchenAid (Kitchen Aid) & Roper. This dryer was about 4 years old when the problem just appeared, so I would suspect others are seeing it around this same time frame or so (after about 4 years of service). This repair steps you through the thermal fuse replacement, step by step, with detailed pictures of the entire process and has the repair of replacing the door switch (in case the problem isn't the thermal switch).

Ice Maker Not Making Ice for those with Three Door (French Door) Refrigerator
- There is a line of Maytag refrigerators that have a notorious problem in their ice makers. These refrigerators may be labeled as other brands (like Whirlpool, Amana, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Galaxy, Inglis, MayTag, Roper, and Admiral), but basically, it’s the type of refrigerator is as shown in Figure 0.4 below.

Appliance Repair Shops tell me that ice makers repairs are over 65% of their calls. These instructions will save you from making such a call and give you the pride that you have fixed it yourself and saved bundles of money. Also, this particular model of refrigerator usually calls out to replace the whole ice maker assembly, in which the part itself cost at least $110. I will show you how to avoid replacing the whole unit and only replace the part that needs to be replaced...saving you more money. Along with these instructions, you will be able to get your part for replacement for approximately $62 from sources provided in the instructions.
These particular repair instructions are for the type of
ice maker in a three door style refrigerator as shown in Figure 0.4 in which the ice bin is in the freezer
drawer. The particular model shown above is Maytag model number
MFD2561HES (with the French Doors) but the same procedure applies to other
model numbers made by Maytag and Whirlpool (with the 3 door style).
Time For Repair:
Mechanically Inclined - 15 minutes
First Timer - 30 minutes
This is a low challenge repair...anyone with the ability to use the
tools shown in Figure 0.6 and with the instructions should be able to repair
their ice maker.

Ice Maker Not Making Ice (for those with the Ice Bin on the Door)
- There is a line of Whirlpool refrigerators that have a notorious problem in their ice makers. These refrigerators may be labeled as other brands (like Amana, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Galaxy, Inglis, MayTag, Roper, and Admiral), but basically, it’s the type of refrigerator with the ice bin on the door as shown in Figure 1 and 2 below.

(Whirlpool and KitchenAid are some of the brands)These instructions are geared towards step by step instructions of the type of refrigerator with the Ice Bin on the door as shown in Figure 2 below. These instruction will likely work with other ice makers having the same problem (stops making ice), though the instructions may not be step by step as illustrated, but the instructions will more than likely get you through the repair process just as successfully (if not, let me know and I’ll refund your payment).
For example, these instructions have worked on a 2003 KitchenAid Refrigerator Model # KSRG27FKWH04.

You should be able to find the model number of your refrigerator just inside the door (towards the top on the right-hand side).
Figure 3 - Locating the Model NumberFor example, if you have a Kenmore refrigerator, if your model number starts with a 106, 110, 562, 665, or 198, then your refrigerator was made by Whirlpool. There may be other model numbers that start with different numbers on refrigerators made Whirlpool, but most likely, if it has the ice bin on the door, it's a Whirlpool.
There can be a possibility of a few different things that are typically wrong when these ice makers break...I cover all of these issues in the repair instructions...showing step by step, with detailed pictures how to fix each issue.
One issue covered in these repair instructions involves the replacement of the optical boards (or optic boards) within the freezer section.
As these refrigerators get older, the optics boards are more likely to fail. There is an optic board test that should tell you if your optical boards are the cause of your failing ice maker. See the Optical Diagnostic procedure here:

Another issue with these ice makers involves replacing a part within the ice maker. The only tools needed for this repair of your ice maker are as shown in Figure 4.
Figure 4 - Tools for Ice Maker RepairFrom left to right in Figure 4, the tools needed for the repair of your ice maker are a 1/4" socket (doesn't have to be like the one shown, but can be something like a nut driver), a phillips screwdriver, and while not necessary, you may find it helpful to have a screwdriver.
Depending upon your ice maker issue, you will most likely need to purchase a part. Within the instructions, I will show you how to order your part (based on your model number of your refrigerator). The part is typically about $70 (I show you how to get the part for $61.50 within the instructions). Keep this in mind as you figure your total cost to fix your refrigerator. You should be able to save yourself over $150 for the repair (and have the satisfaction of fixing it yourself). To repair this issue with the ice maker was quoted by our local Sears repair department to cost $230. You should be able to do it for under $90.

Mechanically Inclined - 15 minutes
First Timer - 45 minutes
This is a low challenge repair...anyone with the ability to use the tools shown in Figure 4 and with the instructions should be able to repair their ice maker.
Cost to do it yourself (if you already have the tools): About $81.49 ($61.50 for the part + $19.99 for the instructions).

WOW!!! Just wanted to say thanks! Our ice-maker stopped working this past weekend and my family learned real quick how much we need ice!
So after surfing the internet about the problem, I ran across your repair instructions. And just like everyone else, I was hesitant to pay for repair instructions when I wasn't even sure of the problem. But after seeing my exact refrigerator on your site and reading your ad, I thought what the hek, I'll give it a try before I call the repair man. So on the way home from work, I stopped by a Sears Parts store and purchased the Module/Motor assembly for $77. I know this was a little more expensive than your site, but I didn't want to wait on shipping. Now I'm not much of a handyman and the tools you said I needed are pretty much the extent of my entire tool collection. But from start to finish, it took me about 25 minutes to complete the job! It would of been much quicker but I couldn't disconnect the dang wire harness! I thought I was going to break it or pull the wires out. But finally I got the wire harness to separate. That was the only small problem I encountered. The rest was cake. Ice Maker Repair - Why wait? Do it yourself now...
Hi,
My ice maker had not been working for almost three months when we finally decided to call around. One guy seemed like he didn’t want the job (four weeks went by since I had called him), and we couldn’t afford a service call, part, and labor fees. Somehow I came across your site, and thought, well, there’s nothing to lose. So I took the ice maker apart this past Sunday night (I finally had time to mess with it), and ordered the part from a local appliance store. The hardest part about taking the ice maker apart was trying to separate the wiring harness! Anyway, I took apart the motor assembly, and sure enough, that white plastic gear was cracked. It only took the appliance store about a day to get the part in (the part was a little pricier than you quoted, about $90 w/ tax). The guy there told me that someone else had called that day about the same problem that I had! So I started reassembling everything about 9pm that night. It took about 20- 30 minutes to get everything put together and back in the freezer (I was on the phone while doing it). Just to make sure it worked, I emptied the ice bucket of the bag of ice we bought. With fingers crossed, I went to bed. When I left for work the next morning (6am), I took a peek in the freezer. I cannot tell you how happy I was- we had ice!!
I just want to thank you (as does my husband) for the information that you made available- the illustrations, the step-by-step instructions, even the likely problem and part number for it! Your “booklet” was very thorough and easy to follow. The entire repair was very easy to do, and took a minimal amount of time. Thanks for the Ice Maker fix. I was one of the lucky 5% that did not have to get past Figure 1. The $23 CDN was well worth the saving difference from a $90 call out from the service guy. Thanks for the help. I had a broken tab on the gear shaft and noticed it a week ago, but the gear was in place and so I felt it still should work. I went through the debug sheet found in the refrigerator grill 3 times and could not find a problem. I could not get it to work because I removed the gear early on and did not know what position it should be in. When I saw your fix, I went to a nearby (20 miles) parts supplier and bought the assembly. The parts man knew exactly what I was talking about when I said that all that was broke was a 20 cent plastic part. He sold me his standard lifetime guarantee for $7.00 and said he would likely see me again in 3 - 4 years.

PROBLEM:
While using the washer, you will hear a terrible clicking noise or a rattle
(sometimes is very evident during the spin stage). Occasionally, you may
find some water has leaked (not always associated with this problem, but if you
have seen a little bit of a leak...this should fix that)...or, if your machine
will not drain water, you will want these repair instructions (and save yourself
a bundle on a service call...and a lot of time just waiting on service...this
can be done in 20 minutes by anyone.)

torx driver shown in Figure 4.2 and with the instructions should be able to repair
their refrigerator.
Cost to do it yourself : About $19.99 (+ the cost of the T-20
torx driver if you don't have one...about $4).
Cost to Repair by Repairman: $180 or more.
Savings: $160.01 or more.

Refrigerator Not Cold, but the Freezer is still Cold
- There is a line of Maytag and Whirlpool refrigerators that have a problem that develops quite frequently in their French Door type of refrigerator freezer. The problem is that the refrigerator will all of a sudden stop cooling and become warm (like 55o degrees or warmer), however the freezer section will still be cold. These refrigerators may be labeled as other brands (like Amana, Kenmore, Kitchen Aid, Galaxy, Inglis, MayTag, Roper, and Admiral), but basically, it’s the type of refrigerator with the French doors on top and the freezer drawer on the bottom. While this problem may appear on other type of refrigerators, these instructions will take you step by step through the repair process, with plenty of pictures and explanations. Other refrigerators may be repaired in a similar fashion and you will find these instructions useful, however these instructions will be step by step with detailed pictures and explanations on the French door configuration as shown in the figure below.

Typical Problem: Fridge Warm, Freezer Cold
This particular Maytag refrigerator model number is MFD2561HES and was made in 2005. Your model number, though, may differ if you have the same type of refrigerator with other options (other model numbers may have options such as a water dispenser, etc.) and you will find that these instructions will apply to the other model numbers. If you get these instructions and then find your refrigerator is nothing like the instructions, let us know so that we may make things right for you.
These instructions will work if your refrigerator is warm but the freezer is still keeping cold. If you are having this condition and when you open the bottom freezer drawer and then hold the button in, as shown in the figure below, then you would normally hear a hum of a fan INSIDE the freezer compartment when you push this button in (note, you may hear a fan from the back of the unit...that is fine, but if you don't hear the hum of a fan within the freezer compartment, then there is a problem).

If you are not hearing the hum/whirl of a fan inside the freezer compartment when you hold in this button, then these instructions are for you! If you hear a fan in the back on the outside of the refrigerator, that is fine...but without a humming sound from within the freezer compartment, then you need this fix (there are two fans on this refrigerator...one that is outside and can be heard easily from the back of the refrigerator, and another inside the refrigerator/freezer section). You might also note frozen condensation on the bottom back panel of your freezer if you remove the bottom drawer and look at the very back bottom.
These instructions are available for $19.99. The cost for this repair by a local appliance repair service would likely be a minimum of $280 dollars...more likely $350 or more. With these instructions and a part for about $35 (and we'll tell you where you can go locally to get the part for same day repairs or order via the internet), you will be back with a cool refrigerator for a total cost of about $50 and the pride of fixing it yourself...saving yourself approximately $300! Hello-
Just wanted to let you know that our refrigerator repair was successful! I was
able to find the part at a parts dealer store so that I didn't have to order it.
My husband picked it up on the way home from work yesterday. We got started on
the repair as soon as he got home. It took us almost an hour to do (husband is a
former remodeler, so he's handy, but not familiar with working with fridge

If you have an electric pencil sharpener like the one above (maybe without the clock which is an optional feature...this is a Model # 7845 or Item 773-122 with the name FORAY on the side) and it is has stopped working, then check out this fix.
The typical problem is that you stick your pencil into the hole to sharpen and nothing happens (no grinding noise or nothing). Or, another problem could be that there is the noise of the motor working, however, the pencil sharpener seems to not be grinding and sharpening the pencil. If you have either of these problems, then hopefully this fix will solve your problem.
